UBA responds to Allegations of Sponsoring Turkey Coup

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) have come out to respond to allegations that it helped fund the failed coup plot in Turkey.

Reports emanating from Turkey had claimed that UBA’s Lagos branch had been used to funnel money to members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

The reports, most prominently from yenisafak.com, a leading Turkish daily, had claimed that for 6 months, UBA had been used as a base with which to send money to fund the would-be coup plotters.

UBA released a terse statement, prepared by Charles Aigbe, head of communications, stating that they had nothing to do with the matter. The statement says;
UBA is aware of the on-going and spurious media speculation linking our institution to recent events in Turkey. In light of this we believe it is necessary to categorically state that UBA has no involvement in or connection to these accusations, which are clearly false.
We remain focused and firmly committed to delivering on our strategy to build Africa’s premier banking institution.
