PENGASSAN, NUPENG Suspends Strike

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) have suspended their strike.

Both unions decided to suspend the strike after a meeting with Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment.

The unions had embarked on the strike following what they termed anti-labour activities.

PENGASSAN said the anti-labour activities included “delay in passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), unjust termination of appointment of the Port Harcourt zonal secretary of the union by Total Exploration and Production (Total E&P) Nigeria Limited, retardation of staff promotion in the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NNRA), non- standardisation of nomenclature and collective bargaining in line with what obtains in other agencies in the oil and gas industry, refusal of the management of Petrostuff Nigeria Limited and Sudelletra to recall sacked staff”.
