The Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi has promised that his administration will provide food items every quarter of the year to help people of the state manage the biting economic hardship in the country.
The governor made the pledge yesterday in Ibadan, the state capital while speaking at the third phase of the “Ajumose Food Bank’’ initiative.
Ajimobi pointed out that the move was targeted at reducing hunger and starvation among people of the state.
Wife of the governor, Florence Ajimobi, declared that the food items would be shared across the 33 local government areas of the state by September.
According to her, “This will see us travelling the length and breadth of the state, across the 33 local governments distributing raw food items to randomly selected beneficiaries and widows.
“It is our hope that this token that we are giving here today will contribute significantly in mitigating the harshness of the current economic situation we find ourselves today.’’
She further promised to sponsor the secondary school education of 10 fatherless children from the widows group.
“I wish to state my commitment to restoring the dignity of widows and stopping the stigma often associated with widowhood.’’
