Okorocha says Imo State not owing any bank, repaying FG bailout funds

Gov. Rochas Okorocha has urged journalists to be more constructive in their criticisms of government activities while reporting events.

He made the call at an interactive session with journalists on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo Council Press Centre in Owerri.

He also urged journalists to concentrate more on issues and defend them instead of personalities, noting, however, that journalists were supposed to check the excesses of those in government.

The governor said all his actions were to make Imo a brand new state through enhanced infrastructure development.

Okorocha announced his resolve to move the main Owerri Market (Ekeukwu Owerri) and the artisans to another location to give the state a facelift.

He said the state had cleared all its bank loans and was repaying the bailout funds gradually.

He added that the state government had also resolved to revoke all undeveloped lands and enjoined journalists to provide a well-structured proposal for a media village.

Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Mr Innocent Igwe, had thanked the governor for finding out time to interact with journalists.

He commended the governor for his passion for taking the state a to greater height.

Igwe then reiterated the determination of journalists to partner with the state government and urged the governor to involve journalists in his programmes.
