Nigerian man bags 2 years in prison for beating his girlfriend after she refused to have sex with him

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court, Cambodia on Tuesday, July 5, sentenced a Nigerian businessman, Kingsley Nshiodo to two years in prison for beating his girlfriend and threatening to stab her after she refused to have sex with him last year, according to court officials.

The 34-year-old will, however, have half his sentence reduced according to judge Yen Saroeun, but will be fined about $1,000 to the state budget after being charged with an act of violence with aggravating circumstances under the article of 218 of the Penal Code.

"The court convicted him to two years, but the term of his punishment is reduced to a year. The rest of his sentence was suspended," he said. "The court fines him 4 million riels [about $1,000] to put toward the state budget."
According to District penal police officer Ly Rithy, Mr Nshiodo was arrested by police in the early hours of December 28, 2015, in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district after his girlfriend, 19-year-old waitress Chan Sreyneang, contacted police complaining he had beaten and threatened to stab her. Ms Sreyneang had gone to visit Mr Nshiodo at the apartment they shared in Toul Kork village after a recent falling out, when he had become enraged when she refused to have sex with him.
"He got angry with the victim for refusing to sleep with him. He then beat her and also threatened to stab her, causing her injuries," he said.
