Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, has flagged off the sale of fertiliser for the 2016 farming season at a subsidised rate of 3,500 Naira.
The Governor declared the sale open at the Shabu Central Primary School in Lafia North Development Area of the state in north-central Nigeria.
Speaking at a gathering of farmers, traditional rulers and the state executive members, Governor Al-Makura urged the allocation committee to ensure that the fertiliser was sold directly to farmers.
He assured the farmers that the era of special allocation to some individuals to the detriment of farmers was over.
In his remarks, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr Lawee Yusuf, urged the beneficiaries to use the product strictly for agricultural purposes.
He also warned that the diversion of fertiliser to middlemen would not be condoned.
