Jose Mourinho began his reign in charge of Manchester United with a win as his side beat Wigan Athletic 2 – 0 in a pre-season friendly game.
New signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan made their debuts for the club with Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Anders Herrera also starting. Left back Luke Shaw also got 45 minutes under his belt following his recovery from a broken leg.
United took the lead in fortunate circumstances after Jussi Jaaskelainen scuffed his clearance to Juan Mata, who squared to Will Keane to open the scoring early in the second half. And Mourinho’s charges soon doubled their lead when Andreas Pereira smashed home a sublime finish from inside the penalty area from a short freekick.
