Lalong calls for calm over Assassination of Plateau monarch


Sequel to the killing of the Saf Ron Kulere and Chairman of Bokkos Traditional Council, Sir Lazarus Agai, and three others by suspected herdsmen, there is pandemonium and tension in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State.

According to Daily Post, despite the deployment of security operatives in the affected Council, the people are still in fear and shock over what has befallen them.

Reacting to the incident, the immediate past Governor of the State and Senator representing Plateau North, Jonah Jang, has condemned the action and has called on the people of the State to remain vigilant and stand united.


Jang in a press statement signed by his Media Assistant, Clinton Garuba said its a painful loss, “not just to me as a person, the people of Bokkos, or indeed the good people of Plateau but the nation at large.
“Especially that is coming at a time when our dear state is going through a challenging time when his wealth of experience and the core values which he stood for are aptly needed”, the statement added.
“My prayer is that the Lord grants his soul eternal repose and the family he left behind the strength to bear this great loss.
The statement call on security agencies, “to unmask the perpetrators of this unacceptable barbaric act and quickly bring them to justice while urging the people to remain calm.”

The Senator calls on the good people of Plateau, “to remain vigilant and stand united against those who are hell bent on dispossessing us of our God given heritage by working closely with security agencies believing firmly that with our faith in God we shall overcome.”

Also reacting to the incident, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Simon Lalong, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, said a preliminary security report before the governor has confirmed the attack.

According to him, “The incident took place at about 3pm yesterday Monday while the chief was on transit from a neighboring village.
“The governor has therefore summoned an emergency meeting of security agencies today (Tuesday) so as to come up with strategy to prevent reprisals from aggrieved groups.
“Meanwhile, heavy security team has been deployed to the community so as to be able to react appropriately.
“Government wish to condole the people and government of Bokkos local government.
“The Governor also appealed for calm and allow the security agencies to carefully investigate the attack so as to round up the criminals immediately.
“Governor Lalong also appeal to youths and every other aggrieved citizens of the local government not to take laws into their hands as a result of the attack or engage in any other act that will further endanger peace of the locality and the entire States.”
