Kaduna Government visits Zaria flood victims, condoles with victims family


Kaduna State government on Tuesday visited Magume community flood victims in Zaria city, during which it condoled the family that lost a wife and three children in the incident.

Speaking at Emir of Zazzau’s palace after the inspection of flood affected areas, the State’s deputy governor, Arch. Bala Yusuf Bantex, said the ministry of works would evaluate the collapsed bridge and drainages for prompt action.

The deputy governor, accompanied by top government officials, added that the State Emergency Agency, SEMA, would provide immediate relief materials to the victims and also bring assessment report to avert future occurrence.


According to the deputy governor, “We are here to inspect the level of damage caused by this flood and also condole the family who lost loved ones. We sympathise with the victims.
“We didn’t expect this but the situation on ground indicates that such will happen. We are going to put a good plan to avert future occurence; we also discovered the collapsed bridge. The ministry of works will come and do evaluation for further action. SEMA will also provide relief materials to cushion the hardship faced by the victims,” he explained.
On his part, the emir of Zazzau, Dr.Shehu Idris, commended governor Nasir El-Rufai’s led government for promptly visiting the flood affected areas.

The emir, while advising the government to set up committee to identify genuine victims for relief materials, called on the present government to construct good drainages to minimize flood in the state.

Narrating how the flood incident occurred resulting in the death of four residents, one of the relatives of the bereaved family, Abdul Kadir Abubakar, said the flood started Sunday night.
“We thank Kaduna State government for coming to condole us and see the situation; it means this government is for the people. We lost our wife and her three children but her husband survived while others had minor injuries”, he disclosed.
