A 28-year-old man, Ndifreke Ibuotenang, has accused the police in Akwa Ibom State of alleged brutality and theft.
The artisan claimed he was brutalized by a group of policemen attached to Mkpat Enin Police Division in the state.
According to him, the incident happened at about 9pm on Thursday when he was returning from where he went to drink palm wine.
The officers accosted him and beat him to a pulp, leaving his two eyes badly affected.
He said he was released after the payment of N10, 000.
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Murtala Mani, told newsmen yesterday that the police had already commenced an investigation into the case and all the policemen involved were in detention at the police headquarters in the state.
Mani said, “We have already started an investigation into the matter. We have detained all the policemen involved.
“I interviewed the victim close to three hours yesterday (Tuesday).
“If the culprits are found wanting, they would be dismissed and prosecuted,” the CP added.
