Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, at the weekend in Osogbo, contended that President Buhari is still using the same strategy he used in 1983 when he was Head of State.
Dokpesi, who was in Osun state to seek votes of delegates to the PDP National Convention holding in August while reacting to cases of money laundry against him, stressed that what Buhari did in 1983 shortly after taking over was to clampdown on political class.
According to him, “Many of these politicians were jailed 200, 300 years by Buhari when he came on board. The same thing is playing out today. What I am accused of is like someone questioning a hotelier for accepting money from a lodger.”
He said: “How could a hotelier determine the source of the money he is being paid with? I don’t want to dwell much on the subject. The matter is before a competent court of law. At the appropriate time, I will be vindicated”, Dokpesi said.
On his plans, he said if elected PDP chairman, he would ensure all interests within the party are united into a formidable force capable of winning elections.
He said the first step towards achieving the objective is by considering reports of all the past reconciliatory committees, and stressed the need to stop efforts to factionalize the party.
He equally assured that he would win Osun state for PDP, even as he pledged allegiance to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national leadership of the party.
Responding, Osun factional PDP chairman, Dr. Bayo Faforiji, told the delegation that the state’s delegates would vote for Dokpesi.
He thanked him for visiting state chapters across the country to sell his manifestoes, nothing that it was first of its kind in the party politics in the country.
