An explosion has rocked the US Embassy in Myanmar sparking a lockdown. It is unclear what caused the blast but security levels are at the highest level following the recent terror attacks in Europe.
Islamist terrorists have targeted US Government installations in Asia in recent years, and there are fears this explosion could be linked to extremists. US authorities are yet to comment on the incident.
There have been unconfirmed reports on Facebook that the incident was linked to a tear gas test on the site.
"Smoke and a foul smell" were reported during the incident.
Yan Myo Thein, a political analyst in Burma, said on Facebook: "The US Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar has not officially confirmed yet the small explosion and gas leakage inside the compound happened due to test of tear gas and safety drill.
"The question why the tear gas was tested inside the US Embassy compound in Yangon, Myanmar, has been raised in Yangon."
