The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of six suspected cultists, including their ringleader.
The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the arrests, said the suspects were arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Friday.
Badmos said that the ringleader, one Andrew Awalebi (35), who claimed to belong to the `Eiye Confraternity’, was arrested on Friday morning at a beer parlour, with three other members.
She said that while Awalebi and three others were arrested at the Jakande Estate in Ajah area, two other members were also picked up on Saturday morning in a hotel at Ikorodu.
Badmos said that the suspects had allegedly been involved in many violent crimes in the state, stressing that they constituted a real terror group in the state.
“The ring leader, Awalebi, boasted that with the charms in his body, no gun shots could penetrate him.
“They have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti , Yaba for prosecution,’’ Badmos said.
The spokesperson, however, warned parents and guardians to be wary of the behavior of their children and wards.
Badmos urged parents to help the police to tackle cultism in their respective localities by making reports at the nearest police stations.
