Selena Gomez will Donate her Proceeds from North Carolina Concert to Local LGBT Organization

Singer and Actress Selena Gomez will be donating a portion of the proceeds from her North Carolina stop on her Revival tour to a local LGBT organization, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

"I am very fortunate to have grown up in a home where I learned from an early age that everyone should be treated equally," says Gomez, 23, in a statement.

In March, North Carolina passed the highly controversial HB2 law, which bans cities and other local governments from passing rules to allow transgender people to use public bathrooms that match their gender identity.
"I went back and forth on whether I should cancel my concert in North Carolina and ultimately I think what is right for me is to move forward with my show and donate a portion of the proceeds to Equality North Carolina and their effort to defeat this act of discrimination," says the singer.
Additionally, the star says she's "been reassured the venue I will be performing in has gender-neutral bathrooms as I want everyone coming to my show to be welcomed."

In April, Gomez's pals Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato chose to cancel their joint tour dates in North Carolina to make an "impact" and affect social change. Joel McHale also donated proceeds from his comedy show at the Durham Performing Arts Center to the LGBTQ Center of Durham in April, and Maroon 5 cancelled their North Carolina shows as well.
"I feel like my generation is the most progressive one yet and believe there will be a day soon when laws like HB2 won't even be a consideration," adds Gomez.
