Imo State: Amass tension as Soldiers murder man over N300k

There is palpable tension in an oil-rich community in the Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State after a young man was brutally murdered by some soldiers attached to the oil facilities in the Etekwuru Autonomous community, over the sum of N300,000, allegedly misappropriated by the deceased.

Reports have it that the young man, a 26-year-old man, Declan Obi, was reported to the soldiers by his boss, Evans Njemanze, over the missing money after he was suspected to have stolen the money, being proceeds from the sales for the day.

It was gathered Obi, who was a seller of Coca-Cola products for Njemanze, was after the day’s business, asked by his master to give an account of the proceeds realised from the day’s sales.

This, Obi did, but could not account for the missing money which he argued that he knew nothing about the money. The angry Njemanze invited the soldiers and handed over Obi to them to find out where the money was. In their overzealousness, the soldiers were said to have tortured Obi mercilessly until he lost consciousness and eventually gave up the ghost.

But denying the involvement of his men, the Brigade Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri, Brigadier-General Kay Isiyaku, claimed ignorance of the incident, insisting his men never participated in the torture of the young man and had no hand in his death.
