Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has sacked the chairpersons of the state’s 23 local government caretaker councils.
The State Commissioner of Information, Odey Ageh, made the announcement to the caretaker chairmen on Wednesday, after the weekly state executive council meeting in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
One of the affected council chairmen, who did not want to be named, said they had been informed ahead of the sack to handover all government properties including officials cars in their possession to Director Generals, Local Government Administration and Service unfailingly by Thursday.
Local govt elections in the state are expected to hold in September.
