Edo PDP tells Ali Modu Sheriff to stay away from Edo Politics

The Edo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday warned the embattled National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, to steer clear of the politics of the state which had brought Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party candidate for the September 10 governorship election.

Senator Sheriff, who had on Tuesday declared the emergence of the party governorship candidate as illegal, fixed between 23rd and 29th June for the party primaries.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Benin City, stated that there is no romance between Abuja politics and that of the state, urging the self-acclaimed chairman and his cohorts to stop intervening in matters relating to the governorship election.

Orbih said that the known PDP National Chairman had conducted a successful primary which has elected a credible candidate in the governorship election and that remains the position of the party and its leaders in the state.
He however cautioned that “In the interest of our people and our party he (Sheriff) should not allow whatever differences he is having with Abuja to come to Edo State. We are determined right here in Edo State to go by the law and the provisions of the Electoral Act. The party had given 21 days’ notice prior to the primaries for the election of a candidate. That was done by the party and I am not aware whether there is any other letter that missed the stipulated guidelines of 21 days’ notice to INEC by Sheriff or any other person.”
“Let us not mix the Abuja politics with Edo state politics. I am advising his group to stay away from what we are doing here because we are at peace with ourselves and we are satisfied with the efforts that we are putting in place to ensure that Edo state is rescued from the hands of external investors and we will not tolerate Modu Sheriff’s role of an external investor.
