Chair-Lady of Calabar Sex Workers lands in trouble over workers recruitment

The ‘Chairlady’ of commercial s*x workers in Calabar, Abigail Nweke, has been charged to court for allegedly taking teenage girls from Benue State and turning them to prostitutes in Calabar.

According to Vanguard, Miss Nweke was charged to Magistrate’s Court 1, presided over by Magistrate Michael Edoki for unlawfully abducting six teenage girls from Vandeikiya and Ekun Local Government areas of Benue State and taking them to Vegas Flex, a brothel in Calabar, located at Bedwell Street.

According to the police prosecutor, Maxwell Bassey, Abigail deceitfully took the girls from their homes in Benue State without the consent of their parents and “forced them into prostitution, which is a criminal offence and punishable with five years imprisonment if found guilty.”

Abigail, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, said she was arrested based on the report of some people who are envious of her progress.

She said: “I sell roasted plantain and fish in front of Vegas Flex and not into prostitution as claimed by those who reported me.”

She said only one of the girls, Charity, was brought by her to assist her sell the fish and plantain, while the rest came on their own to function as commercial s*x workers in the brothel.
