University of Ibadan ranked among world best Universities by T.H.E

Hurrah! Our own University of Ibadan has been ranked one of the best University in the World. According to report, of the best 800 universities in the world, as rated by Time Higher Education (T.H.E), a multinational media organization ownethe-wur-logod by TES Global Limited and headquartered in London, reveals that University of Ibadan, Nigeria is ranked among the best universities in the world as indicated in the just concluded 2015/2016 World University Rating by T.H.E.

In this years’ T.H.E ranking as powered by Thomson Reuters, University of Ibadan (UI), out of best 800 world universities in the world clinched 601 out of 800 leaving the university as 75^th best university in the world.

According to THE database report, UI is the first Nigerian university to feature in the T.H.E ranking since the commencement of the ranking in 2004. However, some universities in other African countries such as Egypt and South Africa featured in the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 edition.

The 2015/2016 edition of T.H.E World University Ranking has California Institute of Technology as the most ranked university and best university in the world, retaining the 1^st position since 2011. University of Oxford is ranked second best this year. However, in 2013/2014, University of Oxford shared the second position with Harvard University where the two universities had the same ratting aggregate.

The top three world university this year is completed by Stanford University of the US which hitchhiked from 4^th position last year to the 3rd position in this year’s T.H.E ranking.

The Times Higher Education billed the methodology as “robust, transparent and sophisticated,” stating that the final methodology was selected after considering 10 months of “detailed consultation with leading experts in global higher education,” 250 pages of feedback from “50 senior figures across every continent” and 300 postings on its website. The overall ranking score was calculated by making Z-scores all datasets to standardize different data types on a common scale to better make comparisons among data.
