IMF Boss, Christine Lagarde explains Why she is in Nigeria

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms. Christine Lagarde, touched down in Nigeria on Monday to commence a four-day working visit.

Upon her arrival at about 3pm, Lagarde was received by the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. After a brief interaction with the Minister and the CBN boss, Lagarde left in a convoy for her accommodation at the Transcorp Hilton in the nation’s capital.

Apart from holding sessions with Adeosun and Emefiele, Lagarde will also have meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari and members of the National Assembly.

She’s also scheduled to meet with business leaders, prominent women and representatives of the civil society during her visit.

Speaking before her trip, Lagarde had said “I look forward to productive meetings with President Buhari and his colleagues as they address important economic challenges, most importantly the impact of low oil prices.
“Nigeria is working hard to improve its business environment, promote opportunities for growth in the private sector, and strengthen social cohesion, all areas where the government has an important role to play.”
She leaves Nigeria for Cameroon on Thursday.

While in Nigeria and Cameroon, Lagarde is expected to engage with policy makers and other stakeholders in both countries as well as from the region to underline the IMF’s strong relationship with its African member countries, the IMF said on its website.
