Pope Francis to Visits Washington D.C. (See Official Schedule)


Pope Francis is arriving in Washington D.C. on September 22, marking something utterly significant: his first visit to the United States.

According to Hollywoodlife, Pope Francis will has a long itinerary for his short visit to the capital, making sure to not only spend time with his fellow Catholics, but to also meet with the country’s top politicians including President Obama

4:00pm: Pope Francis arrives at Joint Base Andrews in D.C. His overnight accommodations have not been made public.

All events during this day will be broadcast on a large screen at the National Mall near the Washington Monument. 

9:15am: Pope Francis will head to the White House for a welcoming ceremony, attended by President Obama and other political leaders. He is expected to make a speech. Afterward, he will personally meet with President Obama inside the White House.

11:00am: After leaving the White House, Pope Francis will travel by Popemobile in the official Papal Parade along the Ellipse and the National Mall. This event is open to the public.

11:30am: Pope Francis will pray the Liturgy of Hours, the daily form of prayer of the Catholic Church, with all U.S. bishops at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.

4:15pm: Pope Francis will celebrate mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and the University Mall at The Catholic University of America. He will be canonizing Blessed Junipero Serra, the friar who started the mission system in California during the 1700s.

9:20am: Pope Francis will give a speech to the Senate and House of Representatives in a joint session of Congress. You can watch a live feed of his speech when it occurs here.

11:00am: Following his address to the joint session of Congress, Pope Francis will briefly appear on the West Front of Capitol Hill.

11:15am: Pope Francis will visit St. Patrick’s Church for a blessing, as well as bless clients and the homeless at St. Maria Meals Program of the Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of Washington.

4:00pm: Pope Francis departs from Joint Base Andrews in D.C. on his way to New York City.
