Chris Rock's wife wants to make fortune divorce

Recall in December last year Comedian Chris Rock confirmed he had filed for divorce from Malaak Compton-Rock, who he married in 1996. But now, his estranged wife is reportedly seeking a large part of his fortune.

Both Chris and his ex have two daughters together, Lola, 13, and 11-year-old Zahra and are currently thrashing out the terms of their split. While some areas have been easy to get in line - according to New York Post the former couple will split custody of their children equally - others are proving harder.

The publication states Malaak wants a big portion of her former husband's money, with Chris estimated to be worth $70 million. It claims to have seen court documents which suggest she should receive a pay-out "commensurate with the marital standard of living".

Chris and Malaak met at the Essence Awards and at the time she worked in PR. Following their November 1996 wedding and subsequent children, she quit her career to be a homemaker. The court papers, filed at Bergen County court, explain the majority of her time is spent looking after the kids.

Although Chris and Malaak did have a pre-nuptial agreement in place, a special clause means it no longer stands. Apparently both parties are in agreement that it's already expired, leaving negotiations wide open.

As well as childcare, Malaak is heavily involved in charity work. She set up an organisation called The Angel Rock Project, and has been involved in a salon for women who are getting back into work after being on welfare as well as many other charities. Apparently these works and her time spent with the pair's children form the basis of her request for a portion of Chris' earnings.

Chris spoke about the split in May, admitting he was finding it hard but not going into detail about what caused it.
“I'm doing OK," he told British newspaper The Guardian. "You know, some days are better than others, some days you're sad outta your f**king mind. But my daughters are good and I'm only an hour away. Two houses close by. It's good."
