With just few days remaining before the gubernatorial election, election violence has started in some part of the country. In Ebonyi State punchng gathers that two persons were on Wednesday feared dead following a clash between supporters of Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party in Amagu Ikwo community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The clash also left several others injured in Amagu Ikwo, which is the home town of Governor Martin Elechi.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the killing of one person to our correspondent.
Anyanwu said the Ebonyi State Police Command had deployed police officers in the troubled area to ensure that peace was restored in the community.
He added that investigations had commenced into the matter to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the political clash.
Ebonyi State PPRO expressed regret over the continued disturbances in the state by political thugs.
He said, “The command will not relent in its effort in ensuring that the forthcoming April 11 governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state are free from violence.”
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke to The PUNCH on the condition of anonymity, gave the names of the victims as the Christopher Nworie and Christopher Alobu.
While Nworie hailed from Okwerike village in Amagu Ikwo and was suspected to be a supporter of the PDP, the eyewitness said Alobu was the village chairman and a suspected LP supporter.
