Arsenal will ask Mesut Ozil to explain his actions after he was pictured in a Berlin nightclub hours after being declared unfit to play but insist the midfielder was free to go out on a night off.
The Gunners’ club record £42.4million signing missed Saturday’s 2-1 win at Newcastle because he had a cold and was given the day off to fly back to Germany ahead of tomorrow’s international friendly against Australia.
Standard Sport understands the club are relaxed about the situation and stressed prior to kick-off at St James’ Park that Ozil’s condition was nothing serious and in any case he would have travelled back to his homeland after the game regardless.
Manager Arsene Wenger will speak to Ozil to clarify exactly what happened although it is believed that any formal sanction is unlikely at this stage.
