The mother of one, Ciara says she actually drew inspiration to write her new music from her painful break-up from Rapper Future.
The 29-year-old singer, who split from her fiancé, Future, in August last year amid rumours he had cheated on her, just dropped the video for her new single, I Bet.
And while the lyrics alone of the break-up ballad leave little doubt that she wrote it about her ex, the mother-of-one has confirmed that the sentiment came from a very raw place.
“I Bet is inspired by real life. It was one of those topics everyone could relate to,” she told Extra from the set of her music video, in which she appears as a ballerina.
And with such a heartwrenching chorus as, "I bet you start loving me / Soon as I start loving someone else / Somebody better than you", it's clear the split is very much still at the forefront of her mind.
With the couple having a child together – nine-month-old son Future Zahir Wilburn – Ciara admitted she had no choice but to return to work sooner than later in order to support him. Not that she would have it any other way, with the doting mum, who named her album after her own mother, Jackie, revealing her son is her everything and there's nothing she wouldn't do for him.
“Now being a mum, I can see the world through her eyes,” she said of how motherhood has changed her, adding with a laugh, “I really have to be a successful woman now. Baby ain't cheap and baby's gotta eat, so I go hard these days with a purpose. He's everything to me.”
