Nigeria Golden Eaglets Secure Ticket to 2015 FIFA World Cup after defeating Zambia 3-1


Its almost like a tradition now for Nigeria junior team to do well in almost all competition but the problem is to replicate such performances in the senior level. Just it always go, the Nigeria’s U-17 national team the Golden Eaglets have secured a ticket to the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Chile after beating Zambia 3-1 in their final Group A match at the ongoing African U-17 Championship in Niger.

With the result, Nigeria are top of Group A with seven points ahead of Guinea, who secured the other ticket from the group, despite losing 2-1 to Niger.

Gangling striker Victor Osimhen grabbed a brace while Kelechi Nwakali got the Eaglets’ other goal.

Nwakali came close to grabbing the opener early on after Osimhen was brought down. But his free-kick on the edge of the box narrowly missed trget.

Suleiman Abdullahi also had a chance to put Nigeria in front after heading the ball away from the on-rushing Junior Chipolopolo goalkeeper Daniel Sikanyika but his final touch let him down.

But the Eaglets finally got the curtain raiser just after the half-hour mark. Nwakali’s pass was met by Ebere Osinachi, who set up Osimhen, and the striker struck an inch-perfect volley past Sikanyika.

Osimhen could have added a second in the 40th minute but missed target with only the keeper to beat.

Osimhen then turned provider when his cross was met by skipper Nwakali in first time added time. The hardworking player then rifled home what could eventually be picked as the goal of the goal.

Osimhen added a third just four minutes after the break when he lobbed Sikanyika. The Zambians got a consolation in the 63rd minute through skipper Patson Daka, who intercepted a poor pass by Halilu Lukman, before lobbing Akpan Udoh in goal for the Eaglets.
