Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Tottenham target Jackson Martinez, and hinted that a move for the Porto man may be on his agenda.
The Colombia ace has been one of Europe’s most deadly strikers since his 2012 move to Portugal from Mexican side Chiapas, notching over 80 goals in 120 appearances.
His electric form has, naturally, led to links with a host of top sides, to which Martinez himself has responded by opening the door for a summer switch.
Spurs have been aligned with Martinez for some time, but now Wenger has dropped a major hint that he’s ready to move for the powerful 28-year-old by heaping praise on him:
“Top physical strengths,” he is quoted by ITV Sport. “Hugely efficient, he is the kind of player who can make room for himself in the box.
“He could play in the Premier League because he has the body to make the difference. He uses it in a very intelligent way. Very short back lift and he’s a very good finisher.”
And then with a smile on his face, the Frenchman said:
“He’s on the list of many clubs, you know that. He will be the next big transfer who will give a big smile to Pinto da Costa [Porto’s owner].”
Martinez is the latest striker to shine at Porto, with Radamel Falcao the latest high-profile example.
