In Nigeria that's where you hear names and title that doesn't seem to exist. Really I have never heard the title Indigenous Rapper else where only associated to our Nigeria Rappers. To try and address this, Remilekun Safaru popularly known as ‘Reminisce,’ has called on his fans to stop describing rap artists who perform in local languages as “indigenous rappers.’’
Reminisce, who took to his Facebook page to make the declaration, stated that the appellation does not speak well of them, adding that there was nothing called indigenous rap.
He said: “Stop calling us indigenous rappers; there is nothing like that.
“A rapper is a rapper. Calling me, Phyno, Olamide, Seriki, BaseOne, Lil Kesh and other upcoming local rappers indigenous rapper is a way of suppressing or make us feel inferior.
“Sarkodie who is from Ghana is a rapper and no one refers to him as indigenous rapper.
“If you can call Sarkodie a rapper, then don’t call any of us local or indigenous rapper.
“Over the years, we’ve been able to overturn the rap game and we are proud to be the rave of the moment.’’
