As you would have it, your own Blogger Maestro Perostar had the privilege to Interview Miss NYSC “Batch B” 2014 and it was an exciting moment. She reveals to us the success of her beauty queen career and the journey for her. The interview was anchored by one of our respondent Edokhin Dorkas Osemudiamen and of course yours truly Ogbeide Peter. You gonna enjoy every bit of the interview.
You looking so gorgeous
and beautiful, I don’t really have the adjective to personally introduce you, so
please Can We Meet You
Thank you very much for
that, My name is Rita Chinendu, I am the first daughter of the family of five,
I have two sisters, my dad is late, it’s been my mom all along. I read
Mathematics and Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology,
Minna
Cut In by Ogbeide Peter, Really you mean this Minna in Niger State, I never thought there could be such beauty queen in Minna,
Hahaha, never undermined a community, you never know what to expect, (jokes and laugh)
So how was growing up like for you, you just said your dad has been late and come to think of it, you are the first daughter
Generally I must say it has not been easy, you know how it feels growing and the complete parents figure is not there, it’s not present, so there was a lot of things actually missing but on the other hand I must really thank God for the mother I have, My mom is my Hero, really I don’t know how to explain it, she is my hero because she is both the man and the woman and really I don’t know, sometimes I think that can I actually be like my mom, she just so extra strong. Growing up I have seen her go through some things and I am like this woman has some strength coming from somewhere else and I must say she couldn’t have done this by herself, it is definitely God, she is prayerful, she is loving and one funny thing you must know is that my mom didn’t get married again even when a lot of persons where like get married so you can earn support for this children, she said know that it would take her attention away from taking care of her kids.
Ok, I like to ask this, as for now would you actually say you are living your dream?
(Smiles) that question is really very tricky because I must tell you something, in life some things are not always as easy as it looks, you know sometimes you have it all built in your mind and at some point you think you have not been able to reach that part but by God’s grace. My mom use to say something that when I was younger that when I hear this (singing in beautiful tone) “Joy girl, look at this joy girl” from a TV ads, I use come out dancing and dancing and feeling myself like a princess and it has been very fun, I have actually seen myself following the part of been a queen (with laughter)
So you actually emerge as the Miss NYSC “Batch B” 2014, aside that have you ever contested as a Beauty Queen?
Actually that wasn’t my first beauty pageant, my first was contesting for Queen of Culture and Tourism in Niger State that was in 2010, I was actually the first runner up, and during this I have to learn a lot of stuff like dancing. So for Miss NYSC it was unexpected because I wasn’t planning on it, it was a shock to me when I was pick to represent our platoon but later I thought of it, I have done this before so that’s how it all begun …
So what actually inspired you for contesting as Miss NYSC and what was your secret formula that actually gave you that crown?
(Laughing) that sounds very funny, Ok so what inspired me, like I said it wasn’t expected, my platoon officer was like I was gonna contest for my platoon, I just reluctantly agree but never really took it serious because I was so involve in camp activities (like NCCF, OBS, Dance & Drama), I remember on the day of Miss NYSC I acted drama and I was like an Old Woman in the Morning and then a Princess at night (laughing continues), seriously that was how I was. But what actually inspired me was a particular day I was coming out of my hostel in camp and a lady ran to me and was echoing to my hearing that “please you must represent our platoon for the competition” she kept saying it until two other colleagues came to join her and they were like just do it, then I felt motivated and I said yes, I will. I went back to my room with so much happiness and said “God is this how beautiful you made me” (smiles) And for the magical formula, hmmm … I remember very well after the first appearance on the stage at the back stage a lady just walk to me and told me that you got such a beautiful smiles, just keep rocking it (she was not in my platoon), so that actually raise my confidence and I said to myself, I am getting it, so when I climb the stage for the next appearance, the smiles just came and I said it was made for me.
Now that you have won the Crown, how has this impacted your life, has it change your lifestyle?
Yes, Miss NYSC has impacted my life in such a way that it made me know about myself as someone important and I was able to carry myself with more light and with more knowledge of how important I am and tell. As of my lifestyle it hasn’t really change anything, I am a friendly person, free person and still the kind of person I am, if I want to do this here nobody would say no, like if I want to eat my “akara” nobody would stop me (laugh) but apart from that, it has also made me understand that I am a public figure and with that I could be able to touch some life in one way of the other, although that strategy is very much in place and working towards it.
So you still maintain your friends or are you now rolling with some new set of cliques?
Not really, I have never been that kind of person and a lot of persons refer to me as a one man lady but I have some few friends, people I know and if I want to have a chat we could always do
So what where the challenges you encountered during the journey of becoming Miss NYSC and What where the things you needed to do to enable you wear this crown?
There where nothing much I needed to do because I was just so busy and I never really took the Miss NYSC stuff very serious but on the other hand I started taking it very serious few days to the competition when I was saw a lot of other contestant making new hairs and doing lot of other beauty stuff and some even stop going out just to keep their complexion but I saw myself doing every other thing that I needed to do at the camp and like I said before, I actually painted my face and acted like an old woman in the morning and at night I became a princess, so I actually continued with everything that I was doing and at this point I must say this, winning my Miss NYSC was an unexpected favor because a lot of questions was been raise, like where is she coming from, who is she and others. And I must say, my fellow contestant that day where really looking pretty, I even saw some ladies and I was like am I contesting against this person (laughing), so as I said it was really an unexpected favor.
So that brings us to this question, is there any Prince Charming in your Palace at the moment?
Lol, don’t make it sound like some fairytale movie, like there was supposed to be a happily ever after at the end definitely there is going to be a happily ever at the end but that …. (Paused), (laugh) it’s on his way *laughing continues*
Actually the happily ever is on his way …
Cut in, you didn’t answer the question, a lot of people and fans would want to know, back to the question?
*laughing continues* Ok the truth is …. (silence) … *laugh continues* Can we not talk about this?
Cut in again, don’t worry you can confide in her, assume MP is not listening?
*laughing again* confide in you with proof here (pointing to our tape recorder), alright please let’s just skip this part of the question
Ok if you don’t want to, but here is a follow up on that question, a lot of persons before winning a beauty pageant do keep a relationship but when they get there they dope their relationship and move on, so how do you react to that?
Actually, I am not the type of persons that does that, I hold on to very valuable timed effective friendship because I look at it that someone that hasn’t spent time with me can’t not possibly know who I am, what I am like and what I would love to hold on to and other, like I said before Miss NYSC hasn’t really change me I am still Rita, I am still the way I am, I don’t think it should change anybody but because it only make you a better person and it gives you the opportunity to make positive influence.
So after winning the crown, have you been able to translate you been a beauty queen to your immediate community that you were posted to?
Ahhh … that question is something I have been working on for the past three months, it’s not been easy, but basically this has to do with something I have to do with my immediate community where I was posted to in Minna, Niger State, so I am still working on it, it is a project actually.
So how have you been able to cope with the limelight and the attraction that you get from people around?
Like I said I am quiet friendly but I have issues trying to keep up sometimes but if you have not seen me for a while and you finally meet me or you are just meeting me, when you meet me next, I am gonna give you all you miss, I am this kind of person that knows how to keep up … I just know how to do it … like using the word thank you and thank you no matter what he is bringing forth until the person finally get what I mean.
I love watching movies and I love listening to music … I sing and watch especially seasonal movies.
Have you ever tried acting?
Of course, I mentioned early that I acted like an old woman
Like Professionally
That is something I have been working on, I think I can actually do that, maybe that is something I would develop over time
So what are your final words for your fans and people out there?
I like to say this, life is not easy, no matter what you have been through it actually put you in the position of “the experienced” so you can actually lead someone else. So never look at yourself as not important or I could be over look, so you pains and your scar has actually made you who you are and it has given you your identity. Never forget what your identity is, all you need do is to find a way to actually showcase your identity in such a way that it blesses other people or impact other people around you positively. And don’t forget God, We actually need God in all we do.
Thank you and it’s been wonderful chatting with you here, we sure have learned a lot from all you have said
