British stage and film actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw in a recent comment has shower praise on one of African Influential Women Oprah Winfrey. She had an interview with ES Magazine and took time to praise Oprah who she championed her success to.
Gugu says she often emails Oprah Winfrey, who she calls a “wonderful fairy godmother”. Mbatha-Raw played the title character in Belle, the 2013 British film telling the story of a mixed-race aristocrat who pursues love and the end of the slave trade in 18th-century London.
The 31-year-old was named best actress at last year’s British Independent Film Awards which has led to roles in Hollywood movies, including The Whole Truth with Keanu Reeves and The Free State Of Jones featuring Matthew McConaughey.
She has also been nominated for the EE Rising Star Award at this year’s Baftas. In an interview with ES Magazine, out tomorrow, she attributed some of her success to chat show host and producer Winfrey, who championed Belle and the actress in the US.
“Oprah is a wonderful fairy godmother,” she said.
